Surviving Concrete is an organization that was created to be a safe place for African American individuals to learn about mental health and self-care, gain resources and get insight from other individuals about popular topics. Although our target population is African-American individuals, we encourage other populations to utilize and join our growing community.

For a long time, mental health has been a taboo topic in the African American community. Majority of individuals believe solely religion or simply ignoring symptoms will solve the common mental health issues. As time has progressed, the importance of mental health along with somatic care has been increasing, and with it, many questions about how to gain assistance. From resources to doctors and organizations, interviews via blog/ podcast from mental health professionals, self-care instructors, and individuals who wish to share their personal stories, Surviving Concrete is a one-stop-shop to your new mental health habits! 🙂

Bianca Johnson is a 28 year old student studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Approaching her graduation and licensure, she aspires to serve clients within the DMV area + promote mental health, holistic healing, and self-care within her community.
